Swamp Darner Dragonfly - Male

This is a head-on look at the fellow that Dennis caught while netting. I think his blue eyes are incredible.

The Swamp Darner (Epiaeschna heros) is one of the largest dragonflies in Pennsylvania. From head to tail it measures just about 3 1/2 inches long! An item of interest about this dragonfly is that it rests in trees, often high up in them. While at a wetlands area, one can watch them fly into and out of the trees.
