Since 2007, I teach Typography 101 at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig [Brunswick School of Art].
Braunschweig is located in the centre of Northern Germany. The HBK is the second-largest art school in Germany (after UdK Berlin).
Hermann Eidenbenz, Swiss graphic artist and designer of Haas Clarendon, and Klaus Grözinger, poster designer and student of Schneidler and Brudi, used to teach at the same school. So did Hildegard Korger. Since 1999, the professor for typography is Ulrike Stoltz, internationally acclaimed book artist and member of ‹usus› and, previously, Unica T.
It was in Braunschweig that Walbaum started his career – as a confectioner. In 2011, Dan Reynolds, typeface designer of Malabar fame, joined me in my efforts to spread the typographic virus in Braunschweig.
