More sign spotting:
In a previous thread, I wrote that “[i]n sans serif typefaces, the uppercase ‘I’ can look very much like the lowercase ‘l’. In cases where such ambiguity is unwanted, adding a tail to the ‘l’ (el) can help. […] In this Berlin street sign, the designer alternatively could have opted for an initial ‘I’ with hook (like a non-descending ‘J’) – a design that can often be found in vintage German sans serif lettering.”
And … here it is: Ilsestr. has an initial ‘I’ with hook!
