The Selection - Auschwitz II Birkenau Entrance

Just got back from my second business trip to Krakow, Poland. This time I scheduled a couple extra days to explore the area. I won't go into too much detail about the Auschwitz Concentration Camps. But if you do have the chance to visit Poland, I would highly recommend a visit to this low point of humanity. This picture is of the railroad tracks inside the Birkenau entrance. This is where the infamous "selection" took place for the new arrivals from throughout Europe. Able bodied people were put to work, generally for a year or two in the harshest conditions imaginable, and the rest were taken directly to the gas chambers at the end of this rail track.
