Winter landscape - Hightown & valley (compared to fall, below)
In a comment on my immediately preceding photo, [Christine] commented about "bare, brown trees" not providing a lot of motivation to go shoot scenery -- a sentiment I share. Fortunately, though, we sometimes are out for other reasons and happen to get a chance to record a pretty winter landscape, even without snow to add interest. This was taken on our way home from Ohio the last day of November 2007; it shows Hightown (the cluster of buildings along US 250 on the right) and part of the Blue Grass Valley in Highland County, Virginia, just a short distance inside Virginia from bordering Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The clear air and favorable light helped to make the scene inviting. Last fall I posted a shot of almost this same scene clothed in fall color, which I have placed in the comment box below for comparison.
