    These plastic feet seem to stay on better and do not scratch other surfaces.

    A couple of suggestions, try for the plastic tips you can put on "metal closet shelving" (once t's cut) to cover the bare ends. Or in nuts/bolts section under misc, to cover the bare ends of bolts.

    The blue ones I used are actually protective covers for fiber optic cable connectors. I saved a handful from a large data center project with which I was involved.

    Once you start looking (Home Depot, hardware store, etc) I think you'll have no problem finding them.
