MEP22 Westerhope - St. John's, Whorlton Church
Whorlton, Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, UK
This charming building has been altered since it first creation in the mid nineteenth century. It arose from the housing required by the coal mines nearby, long closed. St. John's was built in 1866 for a congregation of around 200 people. There is plentiful evidence of its extension in 1911, and the subsequent realignment of the nave roof, revealing part of the chancel arch.
