Variety Theater Demolition

The Variety Photoplays Theatre at 110 3rd Avenue was renovated and opened as a nickelodeon theater in 1914 (most likely incorporating perimeter walls of an existing 1897 structure on the site) and its façade was designed by Louis Sheinhart. A 1930 renovation updated the original 1923 marquee. The theater was closed in 2004 (it had been operated as an Off-Broadway venue since 1991) and demolished the following year to make way for a 21-story condominium tower. www.gvshp.org
