Collecting cow dung
A village girl collexting cow dung in the outskirts of Khajuraho. Dried cow dung is used for cooking fuel in many rural households. Cow dung mixed with clay is also a frequently used building material.
Khajuraho which is located in the heart of India in the state of Madhya Pradesh is famous for its ancient temples but it is also an interesting place for those who want to catch a glimpse of rural life which is pretty distant from that ‘Shining India’ which might exist in wealthy parts of big cities. Just around the corner from the most famous temples in central Khajuraho women and men bathe and wash their clothes in the temple lake Shiv Sagar and a little furhter afield in the Old village people live under very poor conditions.
