Stranger #176- Layla
I’m the first to admit that I am bit of a sucker when it comes to hats and when I saw 2 headed my way, curiosity got the better and I made my way over to meet the people who were wearing them so well.
Layla, and her friend Ella, were in Newtown for the day after travelling from their northern coast home of Coffs Harbour. Both girls were interested in the project and agreed to have their portraits taken so we moved to one of my favourite laneways to get started.
Layla struck me as a cool, calm and collected girl and this was reflected in her shots as she was super-relaxed as I fired away. It wasn’t a surprise afterwards when she told me she had done some modelling before. I was very glad i had my flash on that day as it provided just enough light under her hat to show off those huge eyes.
Next year Layla will be vying for a position at UTS and will be studying Forensic Biology. This is a tough course to get into requiring a fairly high entrance mark, but she seemed confident and her friend Ella chimed in saying she would definitely have the marks to get in. When asked if she minded the “blood and gore” that she might come across in her future job, she just shrugged her shoulders and said “not really”. Of course if she does get to do her University course she will be moving to Sydney and I am sure will be a local around the Newtown area.
Thanks for being part of the 100 Strangers Project and good luck with your studies!
