strutting pigeon

    Newer Older

Carin said that this one looked very proper, lordly and all that. I think it's to do with the one foot crossing over the other. Quite a strut, there. I was nearly lying on the ground to take this one; I try to make myself small so as not to spook the birds. Pigeons are good for this, especially pigeons near hot dog vendors, because they don't spook easily. Well, not until some kid leaps up yelling "rar!" and makes them all fly away.

Good details on the pigeon.I wonder if you could play with the crop toget a better composition and add more interest to the picture.

This is techincally good, but it doesn't give me much besides that. I'm not exacly a fan of traditional pictures of birds and animals, but I have a feeling that I've seen this type of shot many times before.

Depth of field is good through the grass, nice action, good size for the frame, but ultimately, a but dull Score 8.5/13 (from the Judgment Day

I would prefer more DOF and another crap. The pigeon is too central for me.

Nice shot. I have alwasy looked at shots of birdsand wondered how people can get such nice shots while all I can manage in very average looking shots...till I bought a camera with a decent tele lens. Check out a picture of a pigeon I have taken

1.Focus/DOF- Awesome. Everything that needs to be is.

2.Composition/Angle- You hit the rule of 3rds. Really like this.

      3. Color/Contrast- The colors are great- not blown out with the sun. I really like the purpleish feathers. The green are a tiny bit mute.

4.Impact-(how much it affects the viewer)- Great shot of an overlooked bird. It doesn't have that 'bang,' becuase it is a rat with wings, but still. Great capture.

5.Overall quality-(noise, over or under exposure)- Overall- what can you do with this? Nothing. Great the way it is.

1.Focus/DOF- 7, the focus does stay mainly on the bird thanks to your DOF

2.Composition/Angle- 6, as someone mentioned above, this is a bit too centered in the photo for my taste. But some cropping to the left or right would probably improve it.

      3. Color/Contrast- 7-8, Overall the color and contrast are pretty good. The colors on the bird are particularly interesting.

4.Impact-(how much it affects the viewer)- 7, Certainly not a bad photo, so I hope my ratings aren't too harsh, but the overall impact isn't that high. Again, with some cropping, it would probably be quickly improved.

5.Overall quality-(noise, over or under exposure)- 7 - exposure seems to be about right. Overall quality is pretty good, certainly not too noisey. Play around a bit with the crop and see what happens - you might be pleased!

1.Focus/DOF- Good use of DOF keeps a nice focus on the pigeon.

      2.Composition/Angle- Real nice framing.

      3. Color/Contrast- Nice strong colors, especially considering its a pigeon

4.Impact-(how much it affects the viewer)- Nice work showing a elegant side to an ordinary bird.

5.Overall quality-(noise, over or under exposure)- Nice and clean....
