Red-winged Blackbird

Plumage abnormalities occur infrequently, but when they do, the always present interesting variations on what are often common birds. The red-winged blackbird may be the most abundant bird in North America, but this individual was exhibiting a phenomenon called partial amelanism. Despite his appearance and perhaps handicap in attracting females, this male was exhibiting all the normal breeding behavior - singing, and defending a territory. I never followed up to see if he eventually attracted a mate.
