Recycled Plastic Bottle Planters

    Newer Older

These are arguably the best sub-irrigation demonstration planters of the many tested in the Greenscaper Consumer Lab. You can easily observe capillary action as it happens. In addition, you’ll be doing a good recycling deed. The other good deed you’ll be doing is on behalf of your plants. Hopefully after using these you’ll be in rehab from the misguided dogma of poke, pour, and pray houseplant care. It is the worst way to water indoor container plants. Read more here.

Cool. Please note the link is broken, though.
I'd encourage you to start a thread in the Tips group, describing it and giving the links to more info. :)

Very cool! Can't wait to try - I guess it's an excuse to buy some soda.

Right on Holly...I've switched from plain bottled water to carbonated no-cal sodas (Sprite Zero - clear, Sierra Mist Free - green) mixed half and half with club soda, That keeps the planter supply going. Have also discovered larger 3 liter green bottles. I'm In the process of planting an assortment of herbs - pics to follow. IMO, you can't buy a better sub-irrigation planter than these. I can hear the plants growing. ;-)

After you get the plants planted how much water do you keep in the bottom of the planter? I'm hoping this works better at me keeping plant than what usually happens...Very neat idea!
