The Connaught Hotel 14/08/09
The return of the birdcage I bought in Colombia Road Flower Market. I created three tiers of hot pink Phalenopsis orchids within the cage. This took two attempts, as the cage toppled over first time and decimated a few plants!
It was important to put something substantial in the place of last week's huge design, as the return to a vase grouping would have been too much of a visual shock. Luckily the orchids inside the cage came back from another contract, allowing me to keep the budget under control.
It took a while to attach all the mango callas to the outside: I have observed the importance of rhythm from studying Daniel Ost's designs. The curves of the cage bars dictated how much I curved the calla lily stems.
Pink snowberries provide a little detail around the base of the cage and help link with the colour of the pink English Hydrangeas I have used throughout the rest of the hotel.
