Ceanothus purpureus

The "holly-leaf" Ceanothus, C. purpureus (Rhamnaceae). Considered "fairly endangered" by the Califonia Native Plant Society and "imperiled" by the state of California, this species inhabits rocky, volcanic soils in the chaparral of the inner North Coast ranges of California. Seen here in the the Foote Preserve, a Land Trust of Napa County property, on the western slopes of Mt. George. Napa County, CA.
