Hiking in Saudi Arabia
This picture was taken on the outskirts of Riyadh near a landmark called Faisal's Pinnacle (www.flickr.com/photos/grappalover/302307317/). When we first approached this location it did not seem possible that we would be able to walk to the top of the outcrop. As you can see, the "walkway" is rather precarious. Notice how steep the ascent is as you approach the top. I have a bit of vertigo, and about 3/4 of the way up a wave of fear came over me (it's an an 800 foot drop if you slip). I was in a state of panic, too afraid to go up or down. Fortunately, I was accompanied by my friend (Dr. Tom Hoffman), and he was able to talk me up. You can see me waving my arms on the top -- happy to have made it to the relative safety of the flat space. The view from the top was breathtaking.
