Buildings by Mary Colter: Architect for Santa Fe RR.
Some of most unique structures along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon were designed by Mary Colter, Chief Architect and Decorator for the Fred Harvey Company/ Santa Fe Railroad.
Colter designed buildings where park visitors could rest, stay, eat and shop, Using local materials to create rustic buildings in the Southwestern style.
Her buildings at Grand Canyon include: The Desert View Watchtower, Lookout Studio, Hermits Rest, Phantom Ranch, Bright Angel Lodge, Hopi House, and two employee dormitories, Colter Hall and Victor Hall.
