Cliff Parakeet, Cotorra Boliviana, Myiopsitta luchsi, Myiopsitta monachus luchsi, Bolivian endemic,
This handsome parakeet has had a number of changes to its classification status over the last 5 years. It was classified as a full species by IOC, Clements and Howard and Moore until 3 years ago, however their most recent updates (September 2012) have it reclassified as a subspecies of Monk Parakeet. This race/species is a Bolivian endemic. It is a bird of arid upland areas. These birds were part of a flock of 40 feeding on tall Cacti by the side of the road 50kms from Monteblanco on the very rough road to Sucre in central Bolivia.
