About this Shot

A combination of patience and luck is what is required for any sunset shot. It was the first time I had been to this location, but luckily I arrived early enough to be able to find a good spot to setup.

It’s impossible to really know how good any sunset will be and this one was no different. Though the actual sun going down was nice enough, the surrounding clouds were pretty colourless. It wasn’t until about 20 minutes after the sun had dipped under the horizon that the angle was just right to illuminate the clouds. The clouds were only like this for a maximum of 5 minutes before they lost all colour.

I always used to believe that a good sunset was all about capturing the sun just before it goes down, then packing up and going home. However, I would advise anyone to stick around that little bit longer after the sun has departed, as the best may still be to come…
