Hyogo 50th Anniversary
Washington state established its sister state/prefecture relationship with the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan in 1963.
Former Governor Albert Rosellini visited Hyogo on a two-week tour sponsored by the State Department to sign the sister-state agreement with Hyogo Governor Motohiko Kanai.

Today, 12 cities in Washington enjoy sister-city relationships with cities in Hyogo. This is the longest standing relationship of any U.S. state with a Japanese Prefecture.
