Stewardson Opera Hall facade in Arcola, IL

    Newer Older

The facade is now complete with a very nice new storefront utilizing the salvaged cast-iron column ornamentation from the Stewardson Opera Hall. The doors (not visible here) were custom made to match the design of doors distributed by the Mesker Brothers. The pediment is the crowning element. The facade was dedicated with a very nice and well attended ceremony, held in front of the building on September 25, 2009.

Nicely done! Can't help but notice the little-orphan-annie 2nd floor windows though. To have gone to this level of exceptional renovation/restoration and not have installed more appropriate 2nd floor windows. Would there have been bright white 1-over-1 windows? The facade work though... amazing and a wonderful example for other communities.

I still lament over the windows... Perhaps they can be changed at a later date

I won't nit-pick over the windows. This is a beautiful building, and an amazing story!
