Helping this 3 gen family business! landlord's tripling rent after about 30 years.

I’m writing to let you know that the beautiful HARRY CHONG YEE’S DRY

CLEANER’S at 30 Charles Street at the Corner of Charles Street and

Waverly just off of 6th Avenue- a family run, 3 generation Chinese

laundry business– a simple, beautiful, unpretentious work of art- the

whole thing is a thing of total beauty- IS ABOUT TO CLOSE as a result

of the landlord more than doubling the rent this year.

This is a huge shame. The West Village’s character is disappearing. I

don’t know what can be done to stop this beautiful three generational

family business from closing. It’s a gorgeous place that should stay.

They still keep their books by abacus. It was mentioned on Sex In the

City. It is a beautiful, authentic place and the guy is such a sweet

person.

I hope you can do something about this….I have sympathy for landlords

in this money-hungry climate but a loyal, landmark business that is an

excellent tenant for three generations should be able to survive.

Again, the business is HARRY CHONG YEE’s DRY CLEANERS

The realty company that is raising the rent is; VILLAGE DWELLINGS 128

Charles St.

212-691-1201

Hope you can help them.
