Guardians of the horizon

    Newer Older

    I’m very happy this morning!!!

After my shots from last week I went back to Ashridge to find the deer again. I searched for a couple of hours - it was zero degrees and I had no luck. Then, just as it was getting dark, I saw movement on the horizon. The largest gathering or deer I’ve ever seen there…but they were deep in shadow. I managed to move to get small “window” of clear sky (and the setting sun) behind them, but had to shoot handheld, standing up.

    They looked stunning!!

This one is just after the sun had dipped below the horizon

I have about 80 images – and really cannot make my mind up about which ones I like best. These are pretty well as they came out of the camera. I have a few more I’ll post later

Which do you like best? You can see them side by side here.

Wonderful! I think I like this one best....the tree....but they are all stunning! As a native of Ashridge, born & bred...& my family still living there.....I've never seen the deer looking so glorious!

This is an awesome shot, as good an image of the Ashridge deer as I've seen. They're so elusive and, having spent many fruitless hours trudging through the woods, I can really appreciate the patience that went into this. And to get them with that beautiful colour behind them, what more could you ask?
