I don't know why, but I've wanted to photograph my bedroom lamp for quite some time. Finally got around to it. Something about the parabolic shape of the light coupled with the shade's pattern that I like.

Seeing that it was my one shot for 5/5/2007, I thought I should add it to the 24 hours of Flickr group. Kind of a digital visual time capsule of sorts.

I think it's better viewed large

Awesome shot -- perfectly composed, and I love the light (pun intended). I have a thing for lamp shots too!!

that's an ikea lamp, isn't it?

      I appreciate the comments.

@an drew -- you are correct, good eye. My grandma has a wonderful old lamp that I'm sure at one point in time was considered tacky. Now it is totally awesome and any hipster would love to have such a funky looking antique. That lamp spurred a recent discussion on whether or not the proliferation of cheap lamps today (i.e. from IKEA) will last 60 years and be "hip" and "retro" to our grandchildren. I'm guessing not.

Nice Light Formation. I have a similar one but not as sharp as yours. Cheers!

A+ on the mathematical explanation. I love this. And not just because I love math.

Ha, looks pretty good, though! Nice photo Matt! Terence Conran says he likes IKEA but just doesn't have the time to scour through the place. Aside from some poorly constructed transient furniture, they've got lots of well-designed items if you look.

You've inspired me to try to photograph my old Luxo crownlight lamps... one of these days!

This is a great lamp! Really like the light angle coming out of it. I think you could use that lamp in other shots (portrait, or just a wider interior shot) and it'd make it even more interesting!
