Little Leaves

This is the Little Leaves patter from Elizabeth Hartman's first book.

Fabrics are all from Anna Maria Horner's "innocent crush" line and the background is Kona Coal

A (very) belated wedding gift for a very dear friend of mine. I've got eh back made up and I'll sandwich tonight, the only question is : Does it need outer sashing? And how should I quilt this?

  • Darci 3y

I would do alittle outer sashing so the binding has some room. I love that some of the blocks have a lighter background!!!

Darci That's kinda what I was thinking in terms of binding. As to some of the blocks being a different color- they are two different kona coal dye lots :( It's less noticeable in person but I dislike the inconsistency when I buy fabric you know?

Also it took FORRREEEVVVEEERRRRRR to stitch all those leaves down. FOREVER.

I would sash it also. I think an overall FMQ is the way to go here as far as quilting..

I love these colours together and the different dye lots of Kona. Great job, what a lovely gift.

I'd consider continuous line echo quilted around the leaves to make them pop and a nice flowing line to the next set of leaves and leave the background and leaves unquilted... or maybe make some more leaf shapes/footballs in the background.
thats a big quilt to be heavily quilting...
Something simple and effective.. that will stand up to use.
    really pretty ...

Gorgeous! I've also run into different kona coal dye lots (so annoying!), but I think it looks beautiful on your quilt! What a lucky friend!

Kim Thank you! Katie deserves this quilt and probably 5 more, she's a rockstar friend. The sort that shows up after you have a baby with stinky cheese, gourmet sausages and mutiple types of mustard. I can't wait to give it to them!
  • Rosie 3y

    How lovely is that!

I had dye lot problems with my Starred Swoon quilt so I know what you're going through but for me it was awkward last minute chunks here and there. The placement of your values actually give interest to the background and looked intentional to me. Love the quilt and what a fabulous gift.

Those leaves would really be showcased with quilting on the gray only and leave them be. A narrow gray sashing would also let them breathe before the binding. Good luck with the finish.

Wow this is gorgeous. Like the others I think the different dye lots adds to the quilt.
