Woooooo - Klamath Bear - Explore #457 3/27/14
We had our first 'bear visit' in the park after a tent camper left a cheese burger (of all things, a
C-H-E-E-S-E-B-U-R-G-E-R) on the picnic table when he went to bed. Not surprisingly in came the bear frightening 25 nearby campers.
O.K., after saying that, this is not our campground bear.
This little male and his sister were orphaned on a river island and a man took it upon himself to put a bag of apples out each day for the bears to 'find'. I was on a boat with this man a year and a half later when Bubba (the bear above) strolled to the side of the river and gave us this clear glimpse before casually walking back into the woods. My friend recognized him as Bubba by the two light marks on his chest and he was elated to see the bear in such good form. A week earlier he had seen the sister bear, Fluffy, also looking healthy and fit. Our boat was a safe distance from the bear.
