and there it was gone
It can be a benefit to fade away. No one hears what you say. No one looks at your face. No one remembers what you look like. You are there but you're not there. You are an intangible memory that passed through the mind of everyone with no afterthought, only to be neglected as nothing of consequence.
Oh but there shall be consequence. To have the freedom of being no one. To only be present in someone's mind when they need something. It means you can be standing beside them and not be observed. To be looked up as scenery that knows its place in the background. When you look upon these people and know they would never suspect it was you.
Ah, the joy of being invisible without ever disappearing. You can do whatever you may and the faded memory of your presence will save you from accusation. And what is it you will do? Such a nefarious answer would be expected but perhaps the best way would be to make them feel invisible or maybe you can't fight that urge to make them disappear.
