Mountain Bluebird

May 2009, Yellowstone NP.

We absolutely love the blue bird, especially when it flew by. It looked like a brilliant blue flash accrossing the sky. The funny thing is that this bird always showed up when we were not prepared - without a long lens in hand, like when we were watching the old faithful erupting or at the mammoth hot spring. Finally we decided to carry at least a 100-400mm lens whenever we go, even in geyser country. And it paid off! This was taken near old faithful hotel. We were so close to the bird. It made a good shot even though the light wasn't optimal.
