Every now and then the mammal division gets something really really cool from the zoo. This gorilla head was in a tank in the bug room today, getting cleaned by the dermestids.


You can't really tell in this photograph—although you can see what looks like it might be a saw line across the forehead—but the back of the skull has actually been removed. That's because the zoo does necroscopies on their animals before sending them along to the Field.
