another bridge to nowhere

how many Darrans epics started out by crossing this derelict but very convenient bridge 5 mins from the Alpine Club's Homer Hut? The crossing was built for trucks in the 1930s (?) when the Ministry of Works had a camp in the area servicing the homer tunnel construction. The vehicle track was presumably to access some small gravel deposits and didn't go much past this point. Today its difficult to imagine any vehicle getting near here.

The bridge goes unremarked by most, near the start of the Gertrude valley walk.
