Pokhara, Nepal; June 2011
Guided by the principle of local and national ownership and good governance, GNWP
implements a capacity building and local legislation and 1325 project in a number of countries.
The local legislation workshops broaden the discussions on national action plans on SCR 1325
and 1820 to include critical local actors such as local councilors, grassroots women’s
organizations, police and military officers, provincial judges and prosecutors, religious leaders,
tribal leaders and community elders. The project aims to develop legislation or policy documents
that will support effective implementation of SCR 1325 at the most local level of governance. In Nepal we reached out to key actors in six districts in the Western Development Region of the country: Baglung, Banke, Dang, Kanchanpur, Kaski and Syangia.
