Anatomical Heart

    Newer Older

This is the vasculature of an actual heart (porcine heart, identical to human heart). The blood is replaced by a plastic substance which fills all of the veins, capillaries, etc, then the heart is put into a solution that dissolves all the tissue, leaving this incredible detail of a heart. My boss was given this to use as a model (he is a cardiologist).

** This was voted a maybe from Hit, Miss, Maybe, WHY? **

Creative photo but it just lacked a little something to me. I suspect it is a matter of style preference and nothing more though.

Does the description mean that it is your photo? That you took it?
The reason I ask is because this picture has gone viral and no one has a source to attribute to it and I'm desperately looking for the right person to credit. If it's yours, it's beautiful and I'd like to credit you. Thanks.

kateoplis Yes, it's my photo. The heart itself belongs to a friend, who is a cardiologist.

Rob Jones Thank you. I've done my part to credit you:

But the post already had 30,000+ notes on Tumblr, and if you do a Google search for "The human heart stripped of fat and muscle," you'll see that it has gone viral and I couldn't find a single post with the right credit.
You can also do a reverse image search on Google for more disheartning posts:

this is really beautiful. I am not very computer savvy but I teach human anatomy and physiology and was wondering if I could have access to use in my powerpoint on the heart.

I really like this photo of the heart showing the vasculature in detail. I am a doctor and doing my thesis on microvasular diseases in women. I would really like to use this photo as the frontpage of my thesis and I am therefore writing to hear if you can permit this or tell me who I can contact with regard to copyright. I hope to hear from you. Best Naja Mygind (
