Though I joke with the title, what is going on here is very important. When flying heavy scenery, you need to balance the weight of the scenery with weights so the scenery can be flown safely. The problem is that when you take the scenery off the pipe, the counterweight system is thrown out of balance. To make sure this doesn’t happen, the stage ops hold on to the pipe until the weight is taken off and the system is balanced again. Here, the piece of scenery was particularly heavy so the stage ops needed to recruit from the scene shop as well.
