"Atora" is the Maori word for chronic heart disease.

actually this stuff's really nice. normally a single pudding about 6-8" wide. basically suet dumplings wrapped around steak and kidney filling. it was a staple of english cooking a generation ago but i haven't had it for years. has to be home-made, it's not something that can be packaged for a supermarket with any quality.

Definitely not for me though I have heard of them and English relatives often prepared them--

I would never put the words "the good" before "beef suet"!

    It's a tumour.

'the good' as opposed to 'the bad' beef suet?
  • Miss Retro Modern 5y

Shelf Life Taste Test - They underlined it so as we wouldn't confuse this with the bad stuff!

i suspect all beef suet is fairly alike so they had to work hard to differentiate themselves! actually i don't remember any other brand so it worked.

Srsly, on a miserable, cold English evening, there's not much better than this for your tea.

the problem is that this makes the dumpling part look like fat. whereas it's like doughy bread. and very nice. google 'steak and kidney pudding' to see what it really looks like.
  • Elijah 5y

Steak and kidney pudding was a staple in The Magic Pudding. These days suet comes in two varieties, still. The "good" stuff (for human consumption) and the other stuff (for bird feed).

Seen on your photo stream. (?)
