Sherman sunset

Submitted to Flickr Monthly Scavenger Hunt for September 2010 under Cease fire

This Sherman tank lay at the bottom of the sea for 40 years after it fell in during the D-Day practice landings at Slapton Sands, where the landing party was taken by surprise by U-boats. Now it stands in the car park at Beesands where tourists (and the Hag) pose by it for photos, little concerned at the loss of life it commemorates unless they bother to read the plaque.

Sherman has long since ceased fire - note the twig planted in the gun barrel.
