Microtus pennsylvanicus

Found the morning of 07-07-07 in an old plastic pitcher used for gardening. The pitcher had been left on one of the steps connecting the two backyard levels. The curious little beast fell inside from the upper step. After I took the photo, I released the little guy at the end of the backyard.

I love voles--I know most people consider them a nuisance, but I say it has it's place as everything does:). Nice story & he's very cute!!

    Such a cute little face.

I have a few watering cans and other containers on my steps, and they all have sticks in them so in case anyone falls in, they can climb back out. I got after my brother to do the same thing with his watering cans after he found someone in there one morning who hadn't made it. :(

I agree it's a cute little creature. The pitcher was left inadvertently outside. But it was a lucky oversight. I was able to observe a vole, and the vole was safely released. 07-07-07 was a lucky day indeed.
