Pochade box (1853 - 1937)

    Newer Older

I got a pochade box at last, this one is from ebay that I was lucky to win. I've made a few adjustments to it so I can use this summer.

I did a quick video to show how it works, hope its not just me but I'm a bit fascinated with these things. They're almost like an old version of a laptop, you have the top area for viewing with your tools in the bottom working area.

What a lucky find. I have an almost unused W J Reeves watercolour box from the early 19th Century; the blocks of paint still have a logo and a colour name stamped on them. It's just missing its water pot which is a shame.

I don't have anything as vintage (and very cool) as this pochade. I do have the smallest Guerrilla box (5x7 panels), with which I've sketched on picnic tables, lounge chairs, and coffee shop booths. I often wonder why more people don't do oil sketching.
