Red-collared Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haemotodius rubritorquis).01

Territory Wildlife Park, Berry Springs, Northern Territory, Australia.

(Walk through aviary).

Sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Rainbow Lorikeet, which is a different race of Trichoglossus haemotodius, and which has a yellow collar.

According to Simpson & Day (Field Guide to the Birds of Australia), race rubritorquis (red collared) is limited in range to north of an east-west line from the south western corner of the Gulf of Carpentaria to the Kimberley (excluding Cape York, Queensland), with the Rainbow being found on most of the east coast of Australia.
