Twilight in High Street Birmingham
The end of a short December afternoon in High Steet Birmingham 1964 and twilight falls over the new, confident 1960's buildings that have replaced the old Bull Ring. The Rotunda was completed just the year before and is still being internally finished, S & U store dominates the backgroundand the Co-op is just visible as a canopy to the left.
People look happy, it is approaching Christmas and this was an era of being able to leave a job on friday and walk into a new one on monday; you didn't need a degree to empty bins and we were not watched by CCTV cameras "For Your Own Safety"
Loading at the bus stop is HOV 721 a Brush bodied Leyland PD2 of 1948, the rear blind of which was not ideal to read from a distance! Sweeping past is a Midland Red D9 in immaculate red livery, next to the Rotunda an early 1950's Ford Consul chugs into New Street.
