Thy lava

Lava is one of the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and experienced. It is really surreal and sublime. The hot air blows over your face as you watch it (in the case of the flows happening in Hawaii) slowly melt and tumble over old lava. It sounds like crackling glass... and it just moves, and stops... flows.. ebbs...

Watch your step! You might be on just-cooled lava (it's hard to tell, and basically the park rangers let you go at your own danger). It's best to go an hour or two before sunset - walk in while it's light, and stay long after it's dark.

Beautiful! An alternative to going before the sunset, is to get up early, 4-5 hours before sunrise, and walk to the lava at night. Beats the crowds, and the combination of solitude and the beauty of the lava is very memorable. It's just you and the powers of nature.
