Four Portaits of an Arch: Star Trails
For the story behind these images, see Sunset.
This is a stack of 10 10-minute exposures on a borrowed Canon T2i and my Tokina 11-16mm. I hiked through Delicate Arch and descended 30 feet down the cliff behind it in order to frame Polaris inside the arch. The noise and hot pixels were pretty bad, so I subtracted an averaged stack of 6 dark frames. In order to put some detail in the otherwise-silhouetted arch, I blended in a 30-second exposure in which I lightpainted the arch with a CTO-gelled headlamp.
