Venus Transit Sunset

I went to the Huntington Beach Pier to photograph the last time that Venus will pass in front of the sun for over 100 years.

I pinpointed the location that I needed to stand to get this angle using a great free program called The Photographer's Ephemeris, which plots the sun and moon rise and set locations onto Google Maps imagery for any date.

Shot with a 400mm equivalent lens (70-200 f/2.8L IS II + 2x III teleconverter) on the 7D. The fullres copy is incredibly sharp. The lens (which I borrowed) just might be worth its insane price tag.
