Itzhak Perlman

Newer Older

Photographed on Inauguration day 1/20/09. African-American Anthony McGill played the clarinet; French-born Chinese-American Yo-Yo Ma took the cello part; and Itzhak Perlman, born in Tel Aviv, was the violinist and Venezuelan star Gabriela Montero was at the piano. They played Air and Simple Gifts, by John Williams, quite moving to me as was seeing Perlman, Montero, McGill and Ma together in this sub zero quartet.

Absolutely fantastic -- exquisite portrait (and I know how you feel about shallow depth of field ... but it works beautifully here).

I don't think Itzak and Yo Yo were using their Strads out there.

I think you're right! -- someone told me that they were special instruments designed to withstand the cold.

Great portrait of a great artist. Not many people can take a picture of a violinist from this perspective!
