My favorite car (and a favorite friend) from the sixties

Taken in 1965 or 1966. The car is a 1960 Austin-Healey Sprite. The photo was shot somewhere on the Oregon (USA) coast. The car I drive now is a 1993 Mazda Miata which is a lot like the Sprite, but has luxurious features such as upholstery, roll-up glass side windows (instead of snap-on plastic), a trunk, door handles and locks, etc, that the Sprite lacked. And you can check the oil by lifting the hood (bonnet) of the Miata instead of having to lift the whole front part of the car as was necessary with the Sprite.

I haven't seen a Bugeyed Sprite in years and this one is yours with a fun model inside. I have to agree your a man of good taste ;->

I haven't seen a bugeye Sprite in nearly 20 years. Probably because there is no way to "lock" them. The last one I saw was at someone's very rural vacation home and he just used it for local driving. With the Sprite, you always felt you were connected to the road, for better or for worse, and I miss that. But my Miata is almost as much fun, more reliable and I can lock it if I want (although I have the top down almost year-round since I'm retired and can choose when to go get groceries).

Thanks for adding this to the group. Wouldn't it be great to have it like it is here. Life flys.

Thanks for letting me know! The car in the picture was fun, but needed repairs more often than today's automobiles do. The '93 Miata I have now is quite reliable even after 209,000 miles. I enjoyed reading the article; I don't drive as much as I used to so my car expenses including gas and insurance run well under $1000 a year.

I was raised with a Bugeye in the garage for my whole childhood... my uncle has 3 and my dad has one. And now the car I want is a mid-nineties Miata. Funny, that.
