Bokehlicious Pollen

Shot for Week 36 of my "52 of Twenty Eleven" flickr group given the theme "Bokeh".

Bokeh is that dreamy out of focus area in the background of an image that is caused by the optics of a lens when you take a picture with a very wide aperture and your main subject is much closer to your camera than the background.

That's exactly what I did here. I was shooting these flowers trying to get some interesting composition with the distant plants going out of focus when this bee happened by. I shot lots of pictures of him at various places on the flower as he was collecting all the pollen he could carry.

For this one instant, I swear it looked like he was sitting in the flower and grabbing onto a petal like he was going to take a bite out of it.

Press "L" on your keyboard to see it on a black background. He looks pretty cool!
