Winter thrush

Newer Older

On my walk in Nordheimer ravine with Ollie today, I found a flock of Robins looking for food and looking colder than usual. Re-thinking that non-migratory thing?

We got a bit of ice fog last night, so the branches of this Rosaceae are ice encrusted.

Nice shot. They'll move out if the going gets too tough.

Marg tells me that there was a flock of them in High Park today. Maybe they're thinking about heading to better climes. The light really brings out the russet tones nicely!

I saw my first robin here in Vancouver on Jan. 3rd- I think this was very early. He did look rather cold and forlorn. Your photo is lovely.

Excellent colors and fine details. The rim of frost on the wings is fascinating. Poor guy does look like he'd rather be on a tropical beach somewhere. :-) [123nature]

I agree about the bird migration thought. I noticed that robins wintered over in San Francisco this year. I've never noticed them being around all year long before... And yes, we had some really cold weather here this year - record cold.
