Newborn and maternal health in Nigeria

A mother holds her premature daughter at Turay Yaradua Maternal and Children’s Hospital in Nigeria. She is holding her baby against her chest to provide skin-to-skin contact and encourage breastfeeding. This method, called Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), was introduced in the hospital by a group of personnel trained by Save the Children. (Katsina, Nigeria, 2009)
