Santa Monica Trader Joes, Not Bicycle Friendly

Cyclists going to Trader Joes are faced with no useful bike racks, and usually attach to railing intended for handicap use, or shopping cart racks. In this scenario it is easy to see a bicycle getting smashed or scratched by a car parking or by shopping carts.

Trader Joes does however pay for a parking lot attendant who directs traffic for all the cars that back up here.

Documenting bicycle parking conditions in Santa Monica. There are some places that address bike parking demand with racks in the city, but many places were demand is much higher than supply or in the majority of cases, not existent. Lack of bike parking discourages making bicycle trips, and encourages haphazard methods to attach bicycles with less than ideal locks.
