Bird's eye Vieu of Bordeaux

March 23rd 1919.

The title of the picture is exactly what was written below the photograph.

They are standing atop Tour Pey-Berland in Bordeaux, France.

Rogers (my maternal Grandfather) is on the right. He contracted the flu on the ship heading to France, and by the time he arrived and recovered hostilities had ended. There's no official record confirming that he contracted the infamous Spanish Flu, which infected 675,000 servicemen and killed 43,000, but it seems certain from the stories that were handed down.

So, if he hadn't come down with the Spanish Flu, he likely would have seen combat and possibly been killed. In which case my mother would never have been born, and neither would I.
