Lower Mills

Dorchester, MA Neponset River

This was once the Walter Baker chocolate factory.

Now, its empty and the surrounding buidings are condos and assisted living .

I am told that some of the condos are for artists.

My secretary told me that when she was a kid, she would smell chocolate in the air in the am.

I'm speechless Garrey. This is awsome! The details are great, especially in the water. Is this HDR or just tonemapped?
  • Garrey PRO 7y

    Thanks Jim and Evan.

It was a single raw file that I ran through photomatix to HDR.
Then, I tonemapped it. I havent done this in a long while. Is that how you do it? Im wondering if I can skip the HDR step and go to tonemapping right away but Ive never tried that or know if its possible.
I can get this type of image without going to photomatix but it sure saves alot of time.

However, the end result had a blown sky so I placed another copy of the image exposed for the sky and masked everything else.
    I'm glad you like it.

Awesome capture. The light makes it very intriguing, great work!

It's still an amazing capture Garrey.
    The details have popped.
Yup, I agree on the unnatural skies.
Maybe the sky lost some detail during your shot... thus having less detail to show here.

If the original image of this photo has a good sky, you can superimpose it through photoshop and get the sky.
I usually do this if tonemapping fails.

    Just fooling around with magmypic.
It pretty easy to use but I can see why its free. They are advertizing with their code and you have no ability to control the sizing of your pic...as far as I can tell.

When I first decided to begin photography professionally, it was architectural / landscape photography like this that I really enjoyed. I still do, but its funny how I stopped shooting anything other than portraits.

This a beautiful, artistic image with much depth and character.
